Banja Luka, June 27 - The Second International Congress on ‘Ecology,
Health, Work and Sport’ was held in Banja Luka on June 25-28, 2008,
under the auspice of the Republic of Srpska Government and the city of
Banja Luka. The MMA head Maj. Gen. Miodrag Jevtić, MD, PhD was together
with renowned names of Serbian Medicine and distinguished figures in
the domain of scientific, educational, cultural and public life of both
Republic of Serbia and Republic of Srpska, B&H, an honorary member
of the Congress Organizing Board.
Participation of the experts from the Military Medical Academy in terms of the number and quality of papers covering the fields of preventive medicine-hygiene, epidemilology, sports and occupational medicine, medical ecology, microbiology, psychiatry, surgery, intensive care and other branches of medicine was highly notable.
At the official opening ceremony, a Research Fellow Elizabeta Ristanovic, MD, PhD addressed, on behalf of the MMA Head, attendees of the Congress with the hope that it would provide successful and high quality lectures, comprehensive and fruitful medical discussions which would promote medical practice and joint regional approach to dealing with health challenges and threats, since the medicine knows of no limits and a disease of no administrative obstacles.
Doctor Ristanovic stressed that the Military Medical Academy as a the Balkan temple of health and Serbian national wealth would continue to give its full contribution to the health of citizens of the Republic of Srpska what the experts from this prestige institution have already proved during hard wartime period and by taking an active part in the work of this Congress as well.
She also delivered a plenary lecture on ‘Bioterrorism – an actual and perilous challenge’ and a lecture on invitation on ‘Lyme disease- a medical and ecological problem’. There was another lecture on invitation given by the head of the MMA Clinic for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Col. Prof. Predrag Romić. The lecture dealt with out-hospital heart arrest – a sudden heart arrest in sportsmen’. Assist. Prof. Sonja Radaković, the head of the MMA Hygiene Institute, addressed, in one of her two lectures, the issue of aerobic ability of tolerance to thermal stress in sportsmen while the other one was devoted to passive and active aclimatization in artificial conditions as a factor of tolerance to thermal stress.
Branko Dikić, MD, MS, thanked, on behalf of the Congress Organizing Board and Scientific Council, the Military Medical Academy for its great support and unselfish contribution to the health of people in the Republic of Srpska at both peace and wartime as well as for extremely professional presentations and impressive results achieved in the clinical practice charished at MMA.
